Mentor Aid
In the next few years at Iowa State University I hope to find a mentor that can help me succeed in my near future. If I were to find a mentor that can be apart of my success in my career job plan. The staff and faculty here will aid me in many different ways. They have the ability to help me network through other agronomy professors to help get my name out. They can show me the different experiences that other professors may not be able to. I would hope that they would get me involved in what ever possible so I am ready for the real world.
My mentor will help me meet possible job oppurtunities by teaching me how to use various job application methods. They can also help me apply for various internships and experiences that will aid in my knowledge growth. The mentor that I find can give me ideas for what I need to do so that I can be able to perform the different activities necessary for me to succeed in my major choice.
In my area interest I have already found many possible mentors that can aid in my success here at Iowa State. In the agronomy department they make it very easy for you to find the one person or professor that is right for you that will make you work to the best of your abilities.

Boxing Club
Some time ago we were asked to attend ClubFest at the Memorial Union, I went there expecting maybe to join a few clubs, nothing to crazy. As I was walking around I found one in particular that caught my eye. Just the thought of seeing it made me want to sign up right there without thinking about how it would test me.
I decided to join the boxing club because I did a little in High School a while back. I found out that the practices were Monday thru Thursday from 4 to 5 every night. The first day of practice was quite a suprise for me. We ran up and down four stories of stairs about five times going down then back up again. After that we went on a long jog where we would sprint every other length of a building. I realized then this was going to be a very demanding club which basically consisted of conditioning for almost an hour.
On the second day of practice, about a third of the people didn't show up that were there the first day. I knew I wasn't going to quit cuz whenever I start something I don't give up. Even after the second day my body was very sore but I loved doing it for some reason. Just the fact that I was actually doing something that I liked to do after classes and homework all day made me feel pretty good, especially when I hit the bag every practice and even after practice for quite a while.
This club was more of a personal intrest for me because its just something that I liked to do, Im actually in shape and having fun at the same time. Pretty soon we get to start sparring in the ring with other more expeirienced club members to develop our skills. In the future I hope to compete against other colleges around the country after I have become a better boxer, and maybe ill have a chance to compete at the national championship in the next couple of years. I'm glad that I joined this club because it is not only going to keep me in shape but it will hopefully make me a harder worker.

Why its Important to be to Class on Time
Getting to class on time is very important because it may effect the way you may interpret a particular subject. Lets say you arrive to class late and the professor is describing how to do a certain calculation. You didn't get their early enough so now you are further behind in the class. You would have to ask for extra help after class from a friend or someone in the class.
Another reason why its important to arrive to class on time is because if we did actually go to class on time we wouldn't have to write this.

Assignment #1
To start off I'm going to give you a little information on my background. I grew up on a small dairy farm in the northeast corner of Iowa in Allamakee County. My family milks 120 cows and farms about 450 acres of land. My brother and I are twins, I have an older brother and a younger brother. In a total family of 6, everyone does their part so that things get accomplished and we are earning money indtead of losing it.
My story begins a couple years ago on a cold Thanksgiving Day. My brothers and I along with my father were working on a building called a freestall barn where the cattle stay eat and lay during the winter so they're out of the weather. At the edge of the building, my dad was working along a cement ledge that was about 8 feet high. He put his hand on a large post and realized that it wasn't bolted to anything. He fell over the ledge and landed on his arm. I rushed down around the ledge and to his side, looked at his arm and realized that it was slightly twisted to the right. My mother rushed him to the hospital and arrived back a few hours later.
When they arrived home my dad told me he had broken his arm in three places. My brothers and I then realized that we would have to step it up and take care of my fathers responsibilities. My brothers and I had our own chores to do let alone. My fathers jobs were to mainly take care of the animals on the farm, decide what the feeding ration for that was, treating the animals if they were sick, and general maintenance of the farm machinery such as oil changes and what not.
During the first week without my father, I had learned how different it was going to be for the next couple of months before he was back to normal strength. My hours increased incredibly along with my responsibilities. I worked my hardest to keep up with the pace but it was extremely hard without very much guidance. But after a week i adjusted to the new setting and started to do things on my own without consulting anyone because it came to me in an instant.
My family and I worked together to take care of all of my dads responsibilities. It was hard but I tried my best to take his place wherever I could. The only thing my father could do was pretty much just walking around to make sure we hadn't been doing anything that would cause a major problem. I used this expeirience to help me make it through my first few weeks of college so far. I looked back at the past during this time and realized that someone isn't always going to be there to tell me what to do, I would need to learn how to do things on my own without worry that I am by myself in this new enviornment.
