Boxing Club

Some time ago we were asked to attend ClubFest at the Memorial Union, I went there expecting maybe to join a few clubs, nothing to crazy. As I was walking around I found one in particular that caught my eye. Just the thought of seeing it made me want to sign up right there without thinking about how it would test me.
I decided to join the boxing club because I did a little in High School a while back. I found out that the practices were Monday thru Thursday from 4 to 5 every night. The first day of practice was quite a suprise for me. We ran up and down four stories of stairs about five times going down then back up again. After that we went on a long jog where we would sprint every other length of a building. I realized then this was going to be a very demanding club which basically consisted of conditioning for almost an hour.
On the second day of practice, about a third of the people didn't show up that were there the first day. I knew I wasn't going to quit cuz whenever I start something I don't give up. Even after the second day my body was very sore but I loved doing it for some reason. Just the fact that I was actually doing something that I liked to do after classes and homework all day made me feel pretty good, especially when I hit the bag every practice and even after practice for quite a while.
This club was more of a personal intrest for me because its just something that I liked to do, Im actually in shape and having fun at the same time. Pretty soon we get to start sparring in the ring with other more expeirienced club members to develop our skills. In the future I hope to compete against other colleges around the country after I have become a better boxer, and maybe ill have a chance to compete at the national championship in the next couple of years. I'm glad that I joined this club because it is not only going to keep me in shape but it will hopefully make me a harder worker.

  1. That's a lot of conditioning! I didn't think they would take it that serious and you would just kind of spar around or something but thats impressive that you stuck it out!

  3. It's weird to think that clubs can be so hardcore but as long as you really enjoy it it's worth it!

  5. Wow. Just the fact that its a club kind of gives you the idea that it wouldn't really be incredibly serious but its obvious that this one is. I never would have guessed that you would start off doing all of that stuff. I hope you keep at it and dominate!

  10. So you are pretty much awesome because there's no way that I would have stayed in that club with that much work, it's just not something I enjoy! But boxing is an intense sport and if you got to compete even on the college level that would be a big deal.

  12. Boxing sounds like so much fun! To be honest, I'm not really that educated about boxing because I've never watched it before, but I know what it is! If its something you enjoy, awesome!
